Cybersecurity Incident Response for Maritime Key Personnel

Cyber threats at sea are more dangerous than ever. They can disrupt navigation, halt cargo operations, or compromise critical onboard systems. The U.S. Coast Guard now requires Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA)–regulated vessels and facilities to train Key Personnel to recognize threats, respond to incidents, and report events correctly.

Under 33 CFR §101.650(d)(2), all designated personnel must complete this training by January 12, 2026, with annual refresher courses required afterward. This interactive training equips officers, supervisors, and other Key Personnel with the knowledge and skills to act quickly, support the Cybersecurity Officer (CySO), and maintain safe, compliant operations.

Participants will gain practical skills to:

• Identify and respond to cyber threats
• Contain or isolate incidents
• Follow proper reporting and documentation procedures
• Preserve evidence and support the CySO
• Stay current with new threats, CISA advisories, and USCG requirements

This training is ideal for:

• Ship officers and masters
• Supervisors responsible for onboard operations
• Designated Key Personnel with access to IT or OT systems
• Contractors involved in vessel or facility operations

The interactive training option allows participants to engage with realistic, interactive scenarios that simulate cyber incidents such as frozen terminals, suspicious emails, and multi-event disruptions. Guided activities and quick assessments ensure learners can apply what they’ve learned when it matters most.

The streaming course option does NOT contain learning checks and interactivities and will require additional training to fulfill the requirements.

By completing the course, these personnel gain the knowledge to understand their responsibilities, respond correctly to cyber incidents, and help keep vessels, crews, and operations secure while maintaining full Coast Guard compliance.
