Step Back for Safety Series: The Dangers of Distracted and Drunken Driving
Every 12 minutes, someone in the U.S. dies in a motor vehicle crash. That’s 34,000 people per year. 11,000 of them are killed by drunk drivers. Drivers who are distracted, however, threaten our safety just as much, causing over 420,000 crashes every year.
This program focuses on the dangers and consequences of getting behind the wheel when you’re unable or unwilling to pay full attention to driving safely.
It demonstrates and explains how any drug—whether it’s legal, illegal, prescribed, or over-the-counter—or any distraction—like spilling a drink, correcting a child, taking a call, sending a text, or handling a pet—can cause the same risky behaviors and have the same devastating effects.
