Step Back for Safety Series: Job Safety Analysis
Don’t wait for a workplace incident to highlight safety gaps. A Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is a proven method for identifying risks and preventing accidents before they happen. Part of our Step Back for Safety Series, this JSA training course equips workers with a clear, step-by-step approach to evaluate tasks, uncover potential hazards, and establish safe procedures.
Participants learn how to break down job tasks, recognize risks at each stage, and implement practical measures to eliminate or reduce those risks. The training encourages a proactive mindset, helping employees think critically about their work and make safety a daily habit.
Every job has hidden risks. A job safety analysis brings those risks to light and helps you take action to prevent them. The JSA process includes three essential steps:
-
Break the job into steps. Consider the workers, equipment, and work environment involved in each task. This helps uncover hazards that may not be immediately obvious.
-
Identify hazards for each step. Ask “what could go wrong?” to pinpoint potential risks throughout the task.
-
Create safety procedures. Develop and apply safe work practices to address each identified hazard. Often, small changes—like using PPE, improving communication, or keeping work areas clean—can make a big impact.
Even experienced workers can overlook simple risks. This course helps your team take a fresh look at familiar tasks to improve safety from the ground up. Length: 15 minutes
